HANAMI 2005

April 24th

Man in front of Hachiman Shrine. We stopped there on our way to Tsutsujigaoka Park.

I really liked that tree when I saw it in the morning, so decided it would be our spot for the day.

Look at the fabulous view from under the tree. That’s what a hanami party is all about.

A close up on cherry blossoms.

Man under “our” tree. The surrounding view was great too. You can also see all the petals that had

fallen on the ground sheet since the morning. They kept falling like pink snow all day. It was wonderful.

Man under the cherry blossoms. “Spring” is written all over her face.

I’m definitely making this one my spring desktop wallpaper.

A little past one o’clock the guests started arriving. First, the BEC members and two of their friends.

Hisako apparently wanted to touch my freshly shaved head. Who wouldn’t?

Finally, the party was about to start.

Yuka arrived a little later, and brought a friend with her.

The meaning of “Hana yori dango” (Dumplings rather than flowers), i.e. to neglect enjoying the

beauty of the flowers and concentrate on eating and drinking instead.

Yuka had just bought a new camera. She and her friend attentively listened to the teacher’s explanations.

Mashuku and her friend.

One of my colleagues and his wife joined us later.

That’s their son.

Kana, one of my private students, also joined us.

That’s typical hanami food.

“Poifect!”

It was a little cold, but fortunately, Man had brought an extra jacket.

We really had a great time.

This guy had his fair share of dango!

Actually, he probably had more than his share.

I was not exactly badly surrounded, as usual.

Mashuku, Seiko and her friend.

Good food and drinks, and a bunch of happy faces: what else could you ask for?

Once again, it was a real success. Organized by yours truly.

Two of Hisako’s friends came to join us later.

It was time to take out the Japanese sake. Apparently, it was a great choice. Am I good or what?

Not only flowers were blossoming.

She was so happy we’d brought very much needed toilet paper, she kept playing with it for a while.

Those two have something in common...

...they’re both growing something on their heads.

Yep, that day was really great.

That’s the whole group in front of a fountain in the middle of the park.

I wanted to be in the picture too, so we asked some skateboarders to take it for us.
