Wondering about Ainori #308?

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Ainori is a popular reality show in Japan, aired on Fuji TV on Monday nights at 23:00.

In August 2005, I discovered that Ainori was not only popular in Japan, but also all over the world thanks to Bit Torrent technology. I decided to write a summary of each episode, and do a translation of the weekly photo captions from the official site. What do I get out of this? I get to improve my Japanese, I get more traffic to my blog, but above all, I get the satisfaction of knowing many non-Japanese speakers all over the world can appreciate a truly unique reality show. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to post any comments or questions you may have.

There was no Ainori broadcast this week, and there is no news on Ainori’s official website as to when the next broadcast will be. Keep posted!

Update (2006-03-28): Next Ainori will be broadcasted on 2006-04-10 @ 23:30

Hiatus…

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Due to the busy end of the school year in Japan (read: meetings all day and parties almost every night), ☆My Blog☆ hasn’t been updated much lately. Regular blogging activities will resume when I recover… (burp!)

Vernal Equinox

Equinox

Today is the vernal equinox, one of Japan’s national holidays. In Japanese, it is called “shunbun”, and corresponds to one of 24 solar terms found in most East-Asian traditions. On this day, most Japanese go visit their familial grave, and hold family reunions.

Any fans of Izumi’s out there? While looking for info on Mahjong players I stumbled on her personal homepage, and on two sexy DVDs she appeared in, which both came out last year. My, my, the girl sure keeps busy!

Ainori #307

WARNING! THIS IS A SPOILER!

“He’s loved by two girls…”

Did I mention Alec was deep into his little fantasies last week? Well, scratch that people. Alec is not into “little” fantasies at all, he’s in some weird parallel universe! Not only does he wrongly think both Hisayon and Izumi are falling for him, based on his own free interpretation of inexistant hints from them, but now he’s hesitating as to which he should spend time with. Can you guess why? Maybe he’s confused because he’s having a hard time choosing between the two of them, I hear you say? Nop, Nintendo boy was hesitating at the end of the program because he was afraid he would feel guilty if he disappointed either one of them by spending time with the other. This alternate reality he’s living in is all in his head, and I can’t imagine what it will take for him to snap out of it. Poor Alec…

“Inside Alec’s head”

Weekly “sukebe” corner. For the first episode in a long time (no, wait, since he got on the show!), Outlaw actually behaved this week. That took the fun out of it a little, but this week the whole show pretty much concentrated on Alec. But something else is going on, too. It seems Outlaw is starting to get in touch with a part of himself he didn’t even know existed. His little conversations with Suuzan are making him realize how shallow he really is, and especially this week, when Suuzan suggested he acted like he did in order to compensate for a possible lack of love in his childhood. Outlaw even acknowledged in his diary that he was starting to put his own lifestyle in question. Wow, this is getting deep! Are we about to see the human side of the beast?

In other news unrelated to the participants, one of the hosts, Haruhiko Katou, left the show after 6 and a half years. I wonder who’s going to replace him…

:-) Ainori 307 – Special treat for non-Japanese speakers :-)

Next week, more of Suuzan and Outlaw’s deep conversations, Hisayon and Tagami will apparently strengthen their relationship, and it looks like Alec will make Izumi cry!

My blog is one year old!

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Why with the busy graduation season here in Japan I almost didn’t realize that I’ve been blogging for a little over a year! It’s quite embarrassing, but at first, naively unaware that there were actually tons of blogging platforms out there, I was making my blog entirely using MS Word! Check this out! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who came to visit, and especially those of you who leave comments regularly. Cheers!
