Ainori #285

  • ja

Ainori is a popular reality show in Japan, aired on Fuji TV on Monday nights at 23:00.

In early August, upon checking my statistics, I noticed my referrers included a message board I had never been to. To my surprise, some non-Japanese fan of Ainori had posted a link to my blog indicating I was talking about each episode in English. Realizing that there must be many fans out there unable to understand Japanese, I decided to write a more detailed account of each episode, not to mention a translation of the weekly photo captions. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to post any comments or questions you may have.

What a change, boys and girls. The boys have left Bahrain and took a plane to Russia, not to mention the long-awaited new girl members have joined them. They are now at the mercy of a non-English speaking Russian driver, but a least they get to see a truly wonderful country, far from what anyone could have imagined during the cold war. Ok, enough rambling, let me introduce the girls.

Miho “Mie” Tanaka, from Osaka. A really pretty girl with a strong Kansai accent. She’s 22, and an office worker for a bedding manufacturer. She wears a very sexy navel ring, and has a very nice smile. Her motto is: “I’m gonna get my darling”. Definitely my favorite among the new girls, and I’m not the only one. More on that later…

Ume Yukari “Umechan” Umeda, from Shiga prefecture. A chubby girl with a very nice smile, she’s a 20 year old college student. Her motto is: “Happiness is eating, laughing and sleeping”. When she met the group, she was so overwhelmed she went hysterical for a few minutes. Apparently, she never had a boyfriend. She’s gonna be fun to watch.

Aya Aya Kobayashi, 25, from Nagano prefecture . She’s a cute, but very, very shy hairstylist. Her motto is: “I wanna find happiness”. Uncomfortable in groups, she seems more talkative in a one-on-one situation. When she met the group, she had quite some trouble introducing herself, and the others were a bit taken aback by that. She has a reputation for being cold, and apparently joined the program to become a friendlier person. Should be interesting.

From the minute he saw her, TK was all over Mie, and with reason. I think he’s a bit overdoing it, though. The group had some free time during the day, and he invited her for a boat ride, during which he kept talking, and talking, and talking. At dinner, the group started drinking, and the two of them (well, especially him) monopolized the conversation. A bit of vodka got him talking about sex, to the amusement of the two other girls. As far as TK is concerned, she is “the one”, and he’s lauching a full scale attack. We’ll see where that leads him. As for last week’s trailer in which Hide supposedly “met his fate”, don’t get too excited, boys and girls. All we get to know is that he seems to be falling for one of the girls, but they don’t say which one. In any case, with Takano and Omami gone and the arrival to a new country, the atmosphere has completely changed, and for the better.

    Oh… very interesting drift.
I still can’t forgive Hide for what he said to sweet Omami… yet that didn’t prevent me from enjoying this week’s show. ^ ^ Personally I think Aya ’s the cutiest of them 3… but of course Mie and Ume chan seem to have their stock good qualities. Only time will tell if Aya’s personality’s as lovely as her looks.
Now, if she falls for Hide… well… I…
To-ni-ka-ku, it was about time they visited Russia!! I bet we’ll see more cultural clashes in the next few episodes. Wonder if Ainori crew will visit El Salvador someday… They came once to Central America, but in the end the Love Wagon skipped skipped my country. I was in shock when I read about it on the official site. I’m not saying I’d like to be part of the show (engaged already ^ ^;;) but at least I’d like to meet the contestants, even if the encounter takes but seconds. It’d be nanka chotto ikashita! ^ ^
