Ainori #293

  • ja

Ainori is a popular reality show in Japan, aired on Fuji TV on Monday nights at 23:00.

In August 2005, I discovered that Ainori was not only popular in Japan, but also all over the world thanks to Bit Torrent technology. I decided to write a summary of each episode, and do a translation of the weekly photo captions from the official site. What do I get out of this? I get to improve my Japanese, I get more traffic to my blog, but above all, I get the satisfaction of knowing many non-Japanese speakers all over the world can appreciate a truly unique reality show. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to post any comments or questions you may have.

Ainori #293

WARNING! THIS IS A SPOILER!

TK

Mie

suuzan

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a kokuhaku (love declaration in Japanese)! TK, the Yankee flavored one, finally made his move on Mie, the Kansai girl. It took him a few minutes to gather his thoughts before he started, but man, what a speech! I must admit I had watery eyes while he was making it. He was sooo smooth, explaining in very simple terms how he could see them going back to Japan together, how he really needed her, not to forget his very own “Ainori Rap”. What are his chances? I would say they’re pretty good. At the beginning of the episode, TK had to be hospitalized due to a viral myocarditis, ( i.e. an inflammatory virus attacking the heart muscle in plain English), which is a potentially fatal disease. Fortunatly, he got better within a couple of days, during which Mie realized how much she missed him and how much she cared about him. Then, the group took part in an Ukrainian Love Festival, during which girls make garlands and let them float down a river. Boys then have to catch the crown of the girl they like downstream in order to have their love wish realized. Hide caught Aya’s, and Umechan’s floated away unnoticed, which was quite symbolic. Mie’s crown got caught upstream, and TK looked for it for more than half an hour before he could find it. He scored a few more points when he told that to Mie during his kokuhaku. Mie is now thorned between TK and Suuzan, but since Suuzan confessed to her last week that he was not attracted to anyone in particular in the group, I do believe the balance will tip in TK’s favor. People, there hasn’t been any new couples since at least six months, and we might actually come out of that slump next week! Man, I can’t wait! :-)

:-) Special treat for non-Japanese speakers :-)

Like Miyabi san said at one moment: “kandou teki!”. It was like if the TK we all know turned into a whole different person: real, yet touching enough to make MIE cry when he confessed. Now, when a woman does that under such circumstances, it either means she feels flattered… or really uncomfortable because she can’t reciprocate. Your thoughts? Either way, TK did good, really good. Even if he gets rejected, he’ll go with style for sure. A really, really, really nice episode (maybe because Arashi wasn’t around at all?). I, too, wish TK and MIE become Ainori’s first couple in MONTHS.
BTW, Bouchard san, I’ve posting here for a while alredy, and I realized I haven’t thanked you for giving us, Ainori fans, and lovers of Japanese culture as well, the opportunity to talk about both freely. I enjoy it here very much, therefore, you’ve got my gratitude for it.
    Mata.

Actually, you’ve been showing your gratitude already by faithfully writing well-thought comments on a weekly basis. I’m the one who should thank you. It’s people like you who keep me going.

    Cheers,

    Sylvain

Interesting…sounds like a cross between America’s “Dating Game” and Japan’s very own ‘Takeshi’s Castle,” in terms of the “challenges” that is…god, I pee my pants just thinking about the utmost hilarity of that show…;)

I’ve only been watching this show for around 5 weeks so this will be the first time I’ll be able to watch one of the members confess their love to another. Exciting! I’d hate to see TK go though. During the time he was hospitalized, the bus trips were dead silent. And no one’s going to make hilarious comments like him once he’s gone (That Ainori rap with the bread stain…how he wants his kid to ride in a better baby stroller than the other kids…the “From Japan!” dance ^^). His lines in Ainori are so popular, they’re selling short clips of it on the official site for your cellphone!

Go tk! He’s always kept this show funny with his antics, I hope he it goes well for it next episode! But the show won’t be as funny without him T_T

I like the preview for next ep too, tk saying something like “All that’s left is to hear you say yes” to MIE. 「あとはあなとのエイスを聞くだけです。」That cocky bastard! Hahaha.

And for you people that don’t get Ainori on tv, you can download the episodes at D-addicts. The liks on this page.

Oh god thanks for your explanation! I watched it but I did not understand everything! So it is cool to know why Tk was in hospital! I was touched by the declaration scene but did not get what Tk said. I think too that he has good chance to go back to JApan with Mie. Moreover Suzan said he can’t fall in love (so I guess he will stay in this show forever and ever lol). Well can’t wait to have the translation of the rap scene because it was already funny in japanese!

GO TK ! GO! (the scene with the braid at the last episode made me fall for him!!)

And what is going to happen next? BEaucause the wowan that comment the show cried (Mie will not go back NOOOOOOOO!)

J’ai écrit en anglais comme tout le monde parle anglais ^___^!

I’m happy for TK. He gave it his all in the kokuhaku. Yoku ganbatta! kedo I’ll be so sad when he leaves. I liked TK a lot. It’s sad when someone funny has to leave. Like the girl casts started getting more normal again after Takano left. & now TK on the guy side. :(

but I hope Mie & TK leave together! I only started watching Ainori from when Nacchi came in, and I have never seen a kiss or a “yes” scene from after-kokuhaku day. So I’m looking forward to this one. I’m thinking Mie is going to say yes. That’s why Machami, the MC was crying. I’m hoping anyway. Can’t wait to see the next one!

thanks for always leaving summaries/translations on your blog. Even though I understand everything, I still come & read your blog anyways. :]
