Ainori #295

  • ja

Ainori is a popular reality show in Japan, aired on Fuji TV on Monday nights at 23:00.

In August 2005, I discovered that Ainori was not only popular in Japan, but also all over the world thanks to Bit Torrent technology. I decided to write a summary of each episode, and do a translation of the weekly photo captions from the official site. What do I get out of this? I get to improve my Japanese, I get more traffic to my blog, but above all, I get the satisfaction of knowing many non-Japanese speakers all over the world can appreciate a truly unique reality show. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to post any comments or questions you may have.

Ainori #295

WARNING! THIS IS A SPOILER!

Umechan

Suuzan

Finally, Umechan was in the spotlight… for about two minutes. I’ve heard a lot of people saying the producers were ignoring her, but I don’t believe in that “conspiracy theory”. The truth of the matter is the show is already short, and since she joined Ainori, Umechan hasn’t really been interacting meaningfully with any of the boys, plus there was a lot happening with other relationships. Anyway, in this week’s episode, we got to peek in Umechan’s diary, and we’ve learned that she was getting interested in Suuzan… To be continued. Hey, is it just me, or has Umechan lost weight?

Next, our new member, Alec, felt left apart by the rest of the group, on account that he looks like a foreigner. Then he went on explaining how hard his childhood was, being Japanese, but not looking like one, bla, bla, bla! Come on, he’s been with the group for two days and these guys have been together for months. What does he expect? And I don’t want to sound insensitive or anything, but I don’t buy the “foreign look” syndrome. Sure, he must have been through all kinds of situations when he was younger, but it didn’t seem to bother him last week when the girls were jumping up and down screaming: “Cooooool! A foreign-looking Japanese!”. Get a grip, Nintendo boy!

Hide
Aya Arashi

Arashi and Aya have finally started talking again, but it’s clear that for Aya it’s strictly platonic. She actually started to realize that she was becoming less introverted thanks to Hide, who gave her a lot of support. Is that the seed of a potential “kokuhaku” (”Love declaration” in Japanese)? Only time will tell…

:-) Special treat for non-Japanese speakers :-)

As always, hello, and thanks, Bouchard san, for letting us use your space to comment on such a cool reality show. As you can imagine, yes, after watching this episode I was all hoopla and fuss when Aya gave Hide credit for the change on her personality. However, I’m not totally convinced yet. Hmm… Aya’s affection for Uchuujin Arashi may have dropped but, I dunno, she still looks pretty samayotteru about where she should go. Maybe she isn’t really in love with Hide either. Things have gone so bad these last months I… I just don’t know what to think anymore. An Aya-Hide couple would be nice, sure… but ainori has become so dark in that sense you just don’t know what will happen next.
And yes, you’re right, if Alec calls that “having a hard time”, can’t really imagine what’d he say if he experienced problems such as racial dicrimination or worse. That was ludicrous!! The guy’s acting so depressed… for nothing, absolutely no-thing!! Though I’d like him the way I did with Kouji, but… not a nice way start, that’s for sure.
Finally, it’s not your imagination. Ume chan’s really lost some weight. That tends to happen with some obese contestants. I still remember how much weight Seki chan lost four years ago!! When he fell in love with Hitomi, sure, he was fat alright… but when he met his true love (heh, what was her name? ^ ^;;) his weight loss made him look like a totally different person!! It happened so fast I failed to notice at first the changes in him in that aspect.
By the way, what was all that “special” talk at the end of the show… and about Takano!? I guess I’ll just watch it again and pay more attention. Heh, I should know better by now, beign a 6 nen sei and all (haji wo shire, ore! ^ ^;;).
