Ainori #316

  • ja

Ainori is a popular reality show in Japan, aired on Fuji TV on Monday nights at 23:00.

In August 2005, I discovered that Ainori was not only popular in Japan, but also all over the world thanks to Bit Torrent technology. I decided to write a summary of each episode, and do a translation of the weekly photo captions from the official site. What do I get out of this? I get to improve my Japanese, I get more traffic to my blog, but above all, I get the satisfaction of knowing many non-Japanese speakers all over the world can appreciate a truly unique reality show. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to post any comments or questions you may have.

Ainori #316

WARNING! THIS IS A SPOILER!

This week’s episode started with an official apology for what happened last week. They said pretty much the same thing that was posted on the Ainori website, and confirmed that the cameraman and soundman had gone back to Japan, for the irreparable damaged they caused. If they weren’t fired, I sure hope they were assigned to cleaning the restrooms at Fuji TV.

They then unexpectedly backtracked to 4 days before last week’s incidents, to show the group celebrating Suuzan’s birthday. Although this should have made him happy, it reminded him of the time they celebrated Umechan’s birthday (Ainori #287), and sure enough, Mie’s ghost was back to haunt him. I swear, Suuzan won’t be able to fall in love if he doesn’t get Mie out of his head. He should either forget about her, or go back to Japan and accept her proposal. I can’t help thinking about how Mie must be feeling when she’s watching Ainori and seeing him torture himself like that.

Izumi

Tagamikun

Yes, people, we had a “kokuhaku” (love declaration)! Izumi and Tagamikun had a pretty intimate moment during this week’s episode, sharing a scarf and ice cream like they were a couple. The next day, Tagamikun was invited by Hisayon, and Izumi felt quite disappointed about that. It seems the previous evening had paralyzed “Miss Ice Doll”, and she didn’t have the guts to grab him before Hisayon did. She then told Suuzan about the way she felt towards the young man, and Suuzan gave her a little push so she could take Tagamikun away from Hisayon, “à la Takano”. This really motivated her, and the next day she declared her love to Tagamikun, and gave him the fateful plane ticket.

“I love you, Tagamikun.” “Here’s the ticket.”

It looks like Tagamikun might say yes, but as usual, it’s very hard to tell. Can’t wait to hear his answer.

Well, it seems next week will be an Ainori Special. The staff will go find Outlaw and apologize to him. I sure hope it will be the cameraman and the soundman in person. It’s the very least they should do. They’ll also show us the wedding reception of Kouta and Miho, a couple who found love on Ainori.

Ok, I know I’ve been slow on translations lately, but don’t worry people, work has finally slowed down a bit. So just for the record…
:-) Special treat for non-Japanese speakers coming soon – I promise! :-)

I got a feeling Suuzan is inching closer towards returning to Japan to find Mie. I really have high hopes for the (hopefully) would-be couple. It’s really heart wrenching to see Suuzan torture himself based on his decision. I hope all works out.
Hopefully Outlaw can return to Ainori. He is a great character and undeservingly was at the receiving end of the stupidity of “professionals.” Will he return to Ainori based on the fact that the show will officially apologize to him?
Izumi seems to have a good chance. However, is it just me or is Tagamikun still a mysterious character in the show. I feel as though I don’t know much about him.

I hope Suuzan retires himself and goes back to Japan for Mie also. No one else will come close, and he probably knows it. But if he finds her, will she accept him? She might have moved on already…

Outlaw was all over the place. Towards the end he was likeable, but he did flip out. However, there was no hint that there’s a new member next week to replace him? So maybe he does come back.

I don’t think Izumi has a chance. Tagamikun wants a girl closer to his age. Even though she was cold as ice, there where times when her kind side showed through. I may be way off here but I thought she would have actually made a good match with Alec, if he wasn’t such an idiot.

Yes, Tagamikun and “Souri” are complete mysteries. Suuzan gets all the airtime. Frankly, I’m tired of seeing him. So what if he can cry on cue, who cares? The new, young kids need to act up a little so they get a little more camera time. I’d also like to see something about Hisayon, something besides cooking.
